01: WHY CHOOSE TO ELOPE IN COLORADO

Why Elope?

Eloping gives you the freedom to create a day that feels like you. It’s intimate, intentional, flexible, and often more affordable than a traditional wedding. You get to skip the stress and celebrate your love with adventure, meaning, and no pressure.

Why Colorado?

Colorado is an adventure elopement dream. With dramatic mountain peaks, alpine lakes, golden aspen groves, desert canyons, and charming mountain towns — it offers a huge variety of landscapes year-round. It’s also one of the few states where you can legally self-solemnize (aka: no officiant needed!). Plus, there are plenty of 420-friendly elopement locations in Colorado!

Types of Elopements Here:

  • Sunrise Elopements at Alpine Lakes – Glowing peaks and still water reflections you’ll never forget.
  • Wildflower Summers & Golden Aspen Falls – Iconic mountain meadows and yellow fall forests.
  • Adventure Elopements in the Rockies – Hike, explore, and exchange vows at 10,000+ feet.– Big views, short hikes, unforgettable vows.
  • Micro-Weddings at Scenic Amphitheaters & Overlooks (~20–50 guests) – Invite your people, say “I do” with an epic view.
  • Snowy Winter Elopements in the Mountains – Cozy cabins, snow-covered peaks, and magical winter wonderland vibes.

Note: Colorado’s popular spots often require permits, reservations, or timed entries—I’ll guide you through every step so you can focus on the fun parts.

02: WHEN TO ELOPE IN COLORADO

Best Seasons to Elope:

  • Spring (April–June):
    • Snow is slowly melting in the mountains. Some roads/trails are still closed at high elevations.
  • Summer (July–September):
    • Peak alpine access! Long days, wildflower meadows, and open mountain passes. Most popular season.
  • Fall (late September–October):
    • Golden aspens steal the show. Cooler temps, less crowds. Simply stunning.
  • Winter (November–March):
    • Great for snowy elopements, cozy cabins, and snowshoeing adventures. Lower elevation locations may stay accessible year-round.

Seasonal Considerations:

  • Weather: Can change quickly — be ready for anything, especially at elevation. Afternoon thunderstorms common in summer.
  • Crowds: Popular trails and parks are busiest June–August and during fall foliage. Weekdays and early AMs are quieter.
  • Access: High mountain passes and alpine lakes are often closed until June or July.

Best Time of Day:

  • Sunrise: Private, glowy light, and avoids storms
  • Sunset: Great for fireside celebrations and slow mornings
  • Midday: Best for shaded forest locations or winter months

Events/Holidays to Consider:

  • Avoid long weekends, local festivals, and peak leaf season (unless you love a crowd!). Some examples:
    • July 4th
    • Labor Day weekend
    • First week of October (aspens!)

Pro Tips:

  • Always bring layers (yes, even in summer)
  • Altitude can impact energy — plan easier hikes if you’re coming from sea level
  • Have a backup weather plan! (As your elopement photographer, I always have plans A, B, and C ready to go.)
